Symbol Yachts - Design Team and Quality Control

Symbol Yachts Celebrates 25 Years of Excellence ~
Symbol Yachts was founded in 1982 as the first production boat builder of planning hulls in Taiwan. Founder and CEO Jimmy Cheng accumulated vast experience in Taiwan’s yachting industry, working for a number of famous Taiwanese builders, before establishing Symbol Yachts.

Situated in the heart of Taiwan’s well-known Kaohsiung Industrial District, Symbol’s modern facilities cover an area of over 110,500 square feet, with more than 60% covered. The Symbol yard is located in the same vicinity as many other Taiwanese boat builders, but unlike some of the competition, Symbol owns its factory property and does not sub-contract other boat lines. From top to bottom, this yard is staffed with a well-trained, experienced work force dedicated to building top-quality yachts.

Symbol Yachts are designed by renowned architect Jack Sarin ~
Symbol proudly announces the addition of Jack Sarin as the naval architect on staff. Mr. Sarin has been involved with the design of hundreds of yachts from 50’ in length to over 150’ in length, and has come onboard with the Symbol team to design an entire line-up of models, including the new 50 Pilothouse & 47/51/59 Classic Series.

Symbol Yachts meet A.B.Y.C. (American Boat & Yacht Council) standards ~
Symbol is a strong believer in following the highest structural & mechanical guidelines for ship construction. That is why all new Symbols constructed after January 2007 are now built per A.B.Y.C. guidelines, and are fully compliant with the ISO 9001 quality management system as well; a status not matched by other competitors.

Symbol Yachts have a 5-year limited warranty for the hull & superstructure, separate of individual equipment manufacturers’ warrantees.

For all your service needs, Lucid Yacht Group is conveniently located just minutes from Fort Lauderdale’s Marina Mile District, where qualified contractors & service facilities are just a phone call away. In every situation, Lucid Yacht Group works closely with our buyers to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Symbol Yachts – Construction Information

Hull material and lay-up:
Symbol has wisely invested in new, expandable and CNC (computer cut) Janicki molds for the Sarin-designed 64/68 models. Using the latest software and superior measuring equipment, Janicki Machine Works (of Washington State) produces state-of-the-art molds that have a solid reputation for being the highest quality and most accurate molds made anywhere in the world.

Each Symbol constructed is hand laid-up with the best marine-society approved fiberglass and resin material. Below the waterline, the hull is one-piece solid fiberglass (FRP) approximately 7/8” to 1 ½” in thickness, depending on the size & model. The Symbol shipyard installs woven roving mat with vinylester resin for the first few layers to prevent osmosis and blistering.

Above the water line, Symbol utilizes closed-cell foam and vacuum bagging technology to create high quality cored laminates. This technique allows for extremely lightweight yet incredibly strong hulls and decks with superior thermal and sound insulation. Combining this with an advanced, well- proven design makes for extremely efficient yachts that will cruise faster with less horsepower and less fuel consumption. In addition, the center of gravity is lowered, resulting in a more stable and comfortable ride.

Watertight bulkheads:
Watertight bulkheads are installed in every Symbol. These will prevent the intrusion of water into adjacent compartments in the event that the hull is penetrated, thus maintaining buoyancy. The watertight bulkheads not only serve as a seal but also provide positive structural strength by fully integrating both sides of the hull. All interior bulkheads are bonded to the hull with fiberglass, thus giving the entire structure superior strength and rigidity.

House, Deck and Flybridge:
The house, deck and flybridge are also foam-cored laminates. Symbol installs high quality stainless steel thru-bolts to mechanically join the deck & hull. From here, the joint is further secured with fiberglass reinforcement which essentially brings the hull & superstructure together as one piece & strengthens the critical joint.

Symbol Yachts – Mechanical Information

Underwater gear:
Each shaft and strut is comprised of only the highest marine-grade stainless steel. The shafts are sealed with high performance dripless shaft seal components to prevent seawater leakage into the engine room. Struts and rudders are custom fitted to high tolerances for each boat.

Each boat has a cathodic bonding system with dual-plate zincs that connect all thru-hull fittings, shafts, rudders and all metal alloy components to deter electrolytic damage to these components.

Acoustical sound insulation:
Salon floors and engine room bulkheads are approximately 3.0 ~ 4.0 inches thick and are filled with layers of sound proofing materials such as acoustical high density foam and lead foil. This translates into extremely low noise levels onboard each and every Symbol. Moreover, additional sound proofing material is used in the bow to dampen the clapping noise caused by water slapping against the yacht while docked.

Fuel and hydraulic system:
Symbol installs quality rust-proof fiberglass fuel tanks. All fuel lines are color coded copper for safety and easy identification. Orderly runs are made from tanks, manifolds, fuel /water separators and then to engines. The hydraulic lines are installed in a similar fashion with a white protective coating.

Symbol Yachts – Hardware Information

Stainless steel deck fittings:
All of the deck fittings, including cleats, handrails, bollards, hawse pipes, etc. are constructed of the finest 316-grade stainless steel available, expertly welded and hand polished to a mirror finish.

Wiring and electrical:
Each wire is individually color coded, labeled, and neatly bundled in a protected chase. The electrical distribution panels are made from durable, non-conductive composites with a full array of individually labeled thermal breakers and precision meters, and are fully compliant (as of 01/2007) with A.B.Y.C. guidelines to ensure the highest safety standards.

Plumbing system:
Symbol utilizes modern composite materials for use in all fresh water plumbing tubing and fittings. Every hot and cold water pipe is color coded for immediate identification. The entire water system on every boat is extensively pressure tested for integrity. Symbol installs a common collector manifold to drain all overboard sinks; thus minimizing the need for numerous thru-hull fittings. Shower pumps are individually enclosed with automatic pumps.

Appliances:
Lucid Yacht Group is dedicated to supplying the most modern & reliable appliances available on the market for each of our signature yachts. Our project management team works directly with each customer to formulate a custom-tailored appliance package.
